"We are withdrawing consumer ISDN," said a BT spokesman, "the demand for it has dived with the availability of cheap, fast broadband."
ISDN has traditionally proven popular with those who need Internet access on the move, or those in areas where a faster Internet connection, such as ASDL is not available.
As the BBC points out, broadcasters will miss ISDN which provides more effective live broadcasts that IP alternatives. BT's ISDN customers will obviously miss the service, and many large ISPs may not be able to offer a cost effective alernative. However small ISPS are able to run a viable service.
